Three Heart bridge??

    I was just looking at this bridge...why does it have three hearts, and how do they affect the sound of the bass

    In the time of Stradivari and prior it was fashionable to ornament the instruments and also the bridges. Many bridges were intricately carved and even inlaid and painted. This was purely cosmetic. I think that the three heart design is a vestige of this. I have heard from more than one reliable source that these are not good for tone although I have no first hand experience in this matter.

  6. I quess our Respected Luthiers have their own resources, but french "Despiau" blanks are usually good.
