Any of you folks ever have a problem with any one string in your ProSteel sets not being long enough to reach the nut before they start to taper off? I just noticed this while stringing up my Fender Jazz V thru the body. On my set, it was the E that wasn't up to par "length-wise". Seemed a weird thing to have happen, since the other 4 strings got passed thru-body, and made it to the nut just fine.

When I "borrowed" the E from a 4-string set of ProSteels I had handy, I compared the length from ball-end to beginning of taper, and they seemed the same. :meh:

So share your experiences. Did I just get a shorter E by accident... or is this a trait of these sets?

Oh... and thanx for sharing! :D

Here are the reasons I avoid stringing through-body:

    1) I notice no difference whatsoever: not in tone, sustain, flexibility, feel, whatever
    2) It's a pain in the butt
    3) With the taperwound strings I use, the tapered portion doesn't reach the saddle in that mode

I've read here that some tapered strings (Fender?) are wound to work with thru-body stringing. But because I prefer top-load, I would never use those strings.

Just to clarify... the taper that's actually giving me trouble is where the string narrows down as it approaches the tuning post.

As for reasons to string thru bridge or thru body, personally I like the thru body approach because of the more definite witness point I get at the bridge.

    But, that's just me! :p

With D'Addario and thru body stringing you need super long scale strings .

Ugh, thought I'd try a set of these, so I grabbed a set off the shelf thinking they were XLong on my 55-01. Anywho, the taper on the B & E strings is half an inch from the nut. So, its not causing any sort of interferance...

Texture is a little rougher than Hi Beams, but, I like the tension... & they have plenty of zing... bleh, I'm leaving them on.
