I'm looking for a preamp that can give me a similar sound to the thunderfunk. What's out there?

Based on the Basstaters.com clips, the 1 rack u aguilar (6xx) sounded the closest to my ears along with the sadowsky outboard (but you can't plug that straight into a power amp, can you?)

hi really not sure about this i just saw it on an old post a while ago.

i think AMP made a pre amp version of the orginal AMP420 or whatever its called. what the Tfunk is based on. supposedly pretty rare and wont sound exactly the same as the thunderfunk.

so there's some useless trivia for you, thats probably not even right! :D

You are correct. AMP made the SL-1, which was a preamp version of the BH420, which is what the Thunderfunk is based upon. Dave has made a number of improvements, but the basic layout is pretty much the same.

The Read Purity preamp can go from clean to more tubey, funky, vintage old school.

I don't know how similar to the TF it can get, but it is a very versatile preamp.

Also, possibly an Epifani Quest II preamp with a SansAmp BDDI???
