TI JF344 - when do you buy a new set?

OK, I can hear when it's time to change my roundwounds. But what about my now seven years old set of TI flats? I think they no longer have the strong fundamental tone they used to have, and I think sustain is somewhat shorter - but I'm not sure..

So - what do you hear when you know it's time to buy a new set of TI's?

    1) Never?

    2) Right after you install them and realize that the "A" sting's tension is too low?
