Looking for recomentations for a unexpensive bass with the following characteristics in order of importance:

    Tight lows
    Blooming mids
    Pleasantly airy highs

    Light weight

Smaller string spacing, round neck profile

    Elegant yet worklike appearance

Closest I've found to fit my criteria is a import Peavey Cirrus but not enough for me to take the plunge.

    Also I use flatwounds...

  2. yes, Peavey Cirrus BXP, and how about an OLP Tony Levin?

Thanks Geoff. I'll have to some more Pevey BXPs! You brits on the forum seem to know more about the bargains available on the market so much I'm considering signing up on the british bass forum as I write this.

I guess I should mention a few applications and less esoteric terms should anyone be interested in replying to my thread:

    Walking lines to rock grooves
Occasional two hand tapping a la Roscoe Beck
