I've been playing this beginner's model Silvertone bass for a few years now, and its literally starting to fall apart. So, I was thinking summer was getting close here, and I thought that I would get a job and save up for a new bass (and amp).

I mostly play classic rock, some metal, thrash, and alternative, and I was wondering what bass would be right for these styles. I was considering the Rickenbacker 4003 Fireglo or the MusicMan stingray. Tell me what you guys think.

You should try a Spector, Spector, or even a Spector!

    what's your realistic bass budget?

defining this up-front will cull a lot of basses and aid you in setting a realistic expectation of what to look at

    all the best,

Thanks for the replies. It took me all of last summer to make $1800, so I think that will be my budget for amp and bass.

rhythm- I will take a look at the spector basses

Stingray and a nice GK combo amp would get you by pretty well ;)
