Well, it seems my Ampeg B2 combo is starting to falter. I had not planned on getting a new set up until Fall, but I can't risk this amp cutting out on me. Therefore, it's time to start my search. To begin with, some background: I play rock and blues rock. I'm very much into vintage-y sounds, such as JPJ, Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Noel Redding, Geezer Butler, Roger Glover, Geddy Lee, etc etc. I currently play a 62RI P-bass and Zebrabird. With that in mind....... Here are the amps I've been looking at: Sunn 2000s (if I can find one) Bassman 300/Sunn 300T Sound City something Marshall Super Bass (or Super Lead) Vox AC100CPH As far as cabinets, I eventually want to run one of the above said amps into a 4x12+215 combination, though I'm only looking at getting one of them soon.. I prefer sealed cabs, just as a matter of preference, as I think ported cabs sound flubby. Tweeters aren't necessary, as I'd probably turn them off anyways. Overall, I'm leaning more towards the Sunn 2000 or Bassman. My only concern with the sunn is it's rating of only 120w. I play loud. And for cabs, I'm looking at Emperor, as the offer square (guitar-like) 4x12s, and offer them in ohms that I could use with vintage or guitar amps. Opinions, Rants, Grievances, Raves, and Qualms are all welcomed! GO!
may I offer for your consideration: http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?id=263&cat=40&type=5 I heard this head on an SVT Classic speaker stack (410 and 15) at a mid sized club and it was *killin'*! Good luck on the search!
If I can find one I will, anyone have info on Marshall Majors? I'm looking at one right now........I'm tempted, but I'm not sure if would just be a raging distortion machine or if it could just be clean(ish) with subtle overdrive.....
