    Big Wheel,

That's great! I'm going to have to check you guys out one day. I, myself, am not interested in joining in a band. I just like to play for fun in a cozy group of friends and lovers ;)

    Right on!

Dang, if Big Wheel's response doesn't perpetuate every stereotype about women bass players or women musicians other than those in symphony orchestras, well...I don't know what does.

I'm a lady bass player who does not fit the mold described above in any way.

Why does everything have to be labeled and put into a freakin' box?!

Big Wheel's doing her thing. So be it. She's not representing any group, gender, or anything else but herself.

Radio and TV have been compartmentalizing artists for too long.

Let's not us, as musicians, get into that segregated thinking otherwise, it's all over!

    Let's enjoy our diversity...

This is too good to be true. Thank you, God. This thread alone should be worth the $20.

My sister lives in NYC and I almost went to go see the EZ VGNs. I remember I called around a bunch of places like clubs and bars and stuff and couldn't find them forEVER. Seriously, it is SO not easy. Anyway, the only way I found them was when my sister and I went out for dinner one night to some Mexican place which was helluv good and we saw a poster for them. I remember even though it was a long time ago, and besides they had a picture and the drummer was totally cute. I never got to see them play though because me and my sister were supposed to go do something else the night they were playing and I couldn't get out of it. It was pretty lame what we wound up doing and I was upset that I didn't get to go see them.

    SICKLYFACE,

Do female Double bass players count? My full name's Christine, but I go by "Chris" so that I won't have to put up with any sexist crap from you guys. And you know what? I got through over a year here at TB before the truth came out, at which point it was too late for people to start treating me differently.

Let me ask you a question, Junior: why is it that people like you think that female bassists are supposed to be "sexy" and "Hot", while all a male artist like...oh....say.....FieLdY has to do to be successful is to be fat, tattoo-covered, and wear dorky-looking shoes? Does the term "double standard" mean anything to you? Doesn't musical ability have anything to do with the sense of worth you attach to a female player, or is that only for the guys?

Hey - I play mostly sleazy joints in NYC, my whole band is almost vegan, one guy is almost a born again virgin, we almost always wind up stripped to our underwear, we rock really hard, we're soaked with sweat by the end of every show, and we're an all male punk band.

I think we should do shows with Big Wheels band.
