HI, all im a new comer, to the list and to the bass. Made the transition from the good old 6 string to the bass about 5mths ago - love it, really enjoy slappy, and slide type runs and want to know from a fretless bassist if that next transition is for more experienced players - im currently playing a 3/4 bass - cause im just a widdle gal :) no really got it real cheap LOL

thanks guys - hope to hear from you :)

    Michelle,

Lemme be the first to say congratulations and welcome to Talkbass...You'll probably be able to find the answers to most of your questions on the various forums. You can use the search feature to find about a million threads on this very subject of Fretless. Here's my two cents...

Go for it!!! As for being for more advanced players, remember, only 50 years ago ALL beginning bassists started on fretless!!! Does it take more care, discipline, and a better ear??? I'd say yes. You also have your choices of lined or unlined fingerboards, each with pros and cons. You have the freedom to make up your own mind. Here's a tech article from the Bassplayer website on fretless...more of a do-it-yourself guide, but it should give you some ideas...

When you say that you are playing a 3/4 bass, are you talking about a short scale bass???

    Have fun,
