I am using 6 string active fretless (soapbar)and NOT happy with current pickups/preamp.This is custom necktrough . I understand its hard to get every possible sound on the same bass...
Here what I am looking for : Punch! Good Lows(on both pups) and That Jaco Tone on bridge Pup.
What would be the best combination (Pup-preamp) for that kind of sound.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated!

I have a Carvin fretless 6. I put a Bartolini active/passive preamp in it. I also have a Bartolini "J" pickup in the neck position and a Bartolini "MM" style in the bridge position.

When I want a "Jaco" type sound, I go passive, solo the "MM" pickup and set my coil tap toggle to single coil, similar to a jazz bass.

    Not exact, but close.

Thanks Steve ,but I am not going to have a passive/active option.
I guess my question is - Is that possible to get sound that I want on active or not?
