...has a "Fender" or "Squier" decal on the headstock. Same for Jazz basses. For better or worse, everything else is a copy.

To me blue means navy blue. All other types of blue are not real blue.

Oh, cut him some slack. It's a valid thread! If I understand correctly, OP is saying that no one makes a P or J like Fender. For the most part I agree. Which reminds me, happy birthday Leo!

To me, Ibanez Japan makes better P basses than Fender. So there!

4andnomore: you are aware that Fender and Squier make 4+ string basses, right? Just wondering...

  6. Everything else IS a copy. I can`t think of any manufacturer than refers to it`s Pbass style instrument as a `Precision Bass`

    Lakland "vintage P" for one.

  8. If it looks like a P, sounds like a P and feels like a P, it's a P, regardless of the name on the headstock.

Yes, but ROYAL blue is the shade of blue that Jamerson used...so if you want to be a true purist, you'd realize the error of your ways and never veer away from that since Jamerson was the authority on shades of blue.

Thanks man. Yeah you're right. It's pretty obvious what I'm saying - Leo invented those basses. And while some copies may be viewed as "better" they are not genuine P-basses.

So, when I hear P-bass or Jazz bass I think Fender.

This was thread was meant to generate some light-hearted Friday discussion. Oh well.

Sort of like how a Mercedes is a copy of a Ford.

Well I've nevr heard anyone call their Mercedes a "Mustang" ;)

  15. Sorry, I didn`t realize you were refering to the abbreviation.

  16. :D

Come on, let's face it. This:
    glaub_3.

is as much of a P as this:

    Modulus-Funk-Persuasion-Model-Bass-620x184.

    or more importantly this:

    0190115801_frt_wlg_001.

I'm gonna be honest though, I love the colour combination on that Fender.

Was my first real bass. My first Fender was a musicmaster and it wasn't bad. Larry Graham took care of rest. Changed my outlook and playing of P-Basses forever.

  19. To P or not to P... When Iron Maiden'ing, one must P
