Sweet. I have a shed full of skateboard trucks and wheels. When I do the bed liner treatment to my cab I'm gonna do this too. Thanks man.;)

As an old school skater, I would suggest you install the 8 bolts in the other direction. Have the nuts on the outside so you can tighten them if needed. Otherwise brilliant!

  4. No prob!

  5. Could you explain that idea further?

  6. He means the bolt heads should go inside the cab so retightening nuts from the outside is easy. Use Loctite and forget about it.

This is what I meant. Loctite is a good idea, but believe me when I say these bolts/nuts loosen up. Having them on the outside is what you want. And this is how they are installed on skateboards too.

Skateboard trucks would be a nice touch for the skater/bass player - but replacement wheels like the ones pictured in this catalog on page 26 (http://arizonacasters.com/files/catalog.pdf) would be far less expensive and much easier to install.
There should be no need to replace the stock wheel brackets - only the wheels themselves.

The front rubber feet are available at many parts outlets for about $.50 apiece: http://www.tubesandmore.com/products/P-H9107

Also - if you add trucks in a new position, you may need to remove the t-nuts that were for the old casters - and block the holes to prevent noise.

I would also add a large washer on the inside.

Yep, nothing like an air leak to make a cab rattle.

Cool wheels, thx for the link. I'm fine with the stock wheels for now, but they're kind of noisy when I roll over tile floors and stuff. Could be talked into getting a couple quieter wheels. Are these any quieter? Which ones go on the 810e?

my 8x10 doesn't have swiveling castors on it. they are stationary castors.

i don't have the skateboard rails going down the back of my cab either.

    i bought it in 1998.

I no longer have my Ampeg 810, but when I did, the casters went quick.

I found a store on ebay called "handtrucks and casters". They have a lot of....handtrucks and casters.

I found a nice set, with the same dimensions as those on my Ampeg, but they were made out of high quality material, plus they had ball bearings. They were kind of soft wheels, similar to those you find on a flight case. It was a night and day difference with pushing the thing around. The old wheels would snag on sidewalk cracks and cables, the new wheels floated right over.

I strap mine to a dolly (hand truck), works great for stairs and curbs

Yeah - the wheels on the H810e are somewhat unforgiving.

I have not used arizonacaster's catalog before because the actual store is near my house - I just shop from their bins (the last time I got wheels for an 810e was a few years back - and I think I just took an original with me and picked out a model that looked just like it).

I was just doing some unscientific (I did not remove a wheel) measuring on my H810e, and it appears to be 3" x 1 1/4 with a 3/8th" bore. It looks like there are a few options in that catalog in that size (mostly on page 29).

You can probably get softer rubber with a sealed bearing and make that cab run like a Caddy over the tiles:)

Yes - all of the tilt back Ampeg cabs have two stationary wheels (and two rubber feet in the front).

I am not sure when they added the skid rails - maybe around 2005ish.

Heh...Ampeg posted that vid on their Facebook page. Really brought out the "Why don't you guys offer them as stock equipment" posts. LOL!

The skateboard wheels are a novel idea but those cabs shouldnt have swivel casters , they aren't designed to be used like that , and I really dont think that skateboard set up will hold up its just a poor design for this application I wouldnt do it . I can see them getting ripped right off while pulling the cab up that first curb or step, just get a good set of heavy duty FIXED casters , and leave the steel plate on its there for a reason . That skateboard idea will just accelerate the wear and tear on your cab. Just fix it right the first time and forget about it.

something is wrong with the wheels he has on there to begin with.

i still have the original wheels on my cab and i've been using it since 1998. some people just dont' know how to take care of things and they throw them around and let their cab slide down stairs and so forth. lol
