to trim or not to trim

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by fretbuzz, Jul 29, 2002.

  1. i just purchaced a set of ghs boomers, rounds and was wondering if i should trim the strings to a certain length or just keep them stock and wrap as many turns as necessary. btw i have a string through jazz bass. is there any difference? thanks.

  2. On my MIA Jazz V, I find it helps maintain tuning with fewer turns on the pegs, I try to make sure there are 3-4 turns. This usually means trimming the strings, particularly for those strings with pegs nearer the nut (E,A). After measuring and trimming each string individually, I put the end of the string in the hole down the centre of the peg before notching it in the slot, which helps maintain consistent tension.:)

    3 turns should be sufficient.
The width of your hand is a good approximation.
