LOL... up front for lesson learned.
i was hating the sound of my fclef bass to the point that i was going to sell it at a loss just to get rid of it.
right before i took the plunge my buddy Mike texted me and said "flip the toggle swith on the circuit board for a different sound" .........wa la ....... problem solved!
the bass came alive and saved me from buying yet another bass. morale of the story..... hang around bass players:
    1) emotionally detached from your axes
    2) smarter than you

    i now have 2 basses i dig.

This reminds me of 2 things.

First thing: I made a rule for myself that I had to keep any bass I buy for at least a year before I will sell it, so I can be sure I have it long enough to know if it'll work for me.

Second thing: I went over to a friend's house, to look at his 'one of a kind' Lefty Alvarez 20th anniversary guitar. After playing it for a few minutes, I asked him if he realized it was a flipped righty. He was shocked. He hadn't noticed there were side dots on the other side of the neck; he thought there were none at all. Also, he didn't notice the evidence that the bridge slot had been filled and recut in reverse. Suffice it to say, he was disappointed. I felt bad showing him this, so I figured I'd try to cheer him up a little. I said "Hey, it's a good sounding guitar; I bet it sounds great plugged in". Again, the shocked expression. He hadn't noticed the endpin jack, either!

how bout last week when i was about to go off on the sound guy for muting my bass and i realized:
    1) my a/b box had the bass routed to my tuner
    2) the bass wasn't even plugged in

whew .... yet another knuckle head move near miss .... lol!

It is rather unusual for a stock bass to have user selectable switches on preamp. Thats normally only found on preamps bought seperate as upgrades.
  16. After reading about what posters have sold, nearly sold, and regretted selling, I have come to the conclusion that one must be much more careful about what he sells than what one buys.

Is that switch an active/passive switch by chance?

Sorry to say, but I disagree. I had a Schecter Riot that had a couple of DIP switches on the preamp board. They changed the freq center for the treble boost/cut. That baby was totally stock.
