Sounds like it's a manager or booker looking for a new act, rather than a musician looking to start something.

Well, I understood it in the sense that when Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett do a "duet" they have a ten piece band behind them, not in the strict sense of two guys with guitars. I mean, when you see a trio from Don Giovanni, there's a fifty piece orchestra back there, too.

Well, frankly, given that it's Craigslist, my guess is that it's some sort of fantasy. The exact type I can't discern from just the title.

True. CL is the land of unicorns and rainbows where everyone is trying to catch their own leprechaun.

Two musicians, or singers is a 'duo'.
A piece written for two musicians, or singers is a 'duet'.
Perhaps he has WRITTEN an amazing new duet, for two singers, and needs many players to record it.

It's two front-people, likely singer-songwriters, who are looking for a backing band.

Craigslist got rid of personals. The poster is trying to set up a threesome.

A “duet” refers to the song. A “duo” refers to the ones performing a duet. Maybe there’s only one song? :D

No, I asked. They really do need a band, but they were open to the threesome.

Forget the "duet" ad. I'm creeped out by the "Girls That play any instrument or sing."

Note to girls: probably not a good idea to respond to that ad.

Makes sense to me. A duo (presumably vocalists) who needs a backing group.

Hall&Oates- plenty of other examples-that have a full band behind them.
