Figured I might as well post the pics and videos here too
ok pics first...
Knobs inc soon
and the videos...
Pete says forgive him...it was early in the morning, and the bass was not properly setup or intonated yet.
I'm totally digging the minimalist knobs... what a great idea!
Ok, just kidding... very beautiful instrument.
Tombowlus, that is a beautiful bass. If Pete Skjold ever gets a yacht, he needs to name it after you!
That's a goregous bass. Congrats!
Very nice! I love the body laminates.
His slapping technique is quite similiar to mine. Mine is a litle more aggresive and has more motion, but same thumb angle.
I believe that is Pete playing in the video. Tom doesn't have the bass yet. It sure looks and sounds great though!
You are correct sir
Been there, seen it.
Tom, you're gonna love it!
nice to see another Skjold bass. Wow- what a great looking top, those norse-y smybols looks trick, and its nice to see a hipshot added in. Great job pete.
I also dig the tone, nice cutting mids.
However i won't coment on Petes geri curl look....it must a dallas humidity thing- Kidding
Nor does Tom have such skills and/or chops!
Thanks for posting these pics, Juneau! I just got home and I was going to see about bringing some of those photos over to share on TalkBass. For anyone who is interested in seeing the development of this bass, I have a threa, Another Skjold in the Works, or you can check my blog.
It seems like Pete really doesn't want to give up this bass, and I suppose that's a good thing, eh? I can't wait to see her firsthand myself!
Yes, I've been giving him some heck over that hairdo already.
Curly hair rules. The rest of you are jealous.
i have to admit that i'm usually indifferent to basses made with "exotic" top and body woods, but that is very nice. So much so it has me wondering if i should sell one of my plain ol' painted ones a buy a copuple of those. hmmmm...
great sound! tight and punchy...
is the top redwood?
That's "fiddleback" mahogany. The body core is spanish cedar, with multiple laminates (one thick laminate of flamed maple for each the top and the back; more of this on my blog). 7-piece maple, bloodwood, purple heart neck, and fingerboard is ebony, with gold pearl inlays. The pickup covers are also ebony, as will be the knobs (some day! ). The bridge is a new custom Skjold model, as are the pickups and preamp. Tuners are Hipshot.
Perhaps, but Pete's doesn't always look that way!
Excellent looking bass. Excellent playing, too.
I enjoyed the video clips.
I was surprised to catch myself thinking:" My Yamaha RBX 760 has the same sound-characteristics as that expensive custom bass".
Of course a lot of the greatness of that skjold ist lost with the poor-quality microphone i guess.
