I'm restoring an old bass whose single mini-tone pot doesn't affect the sound. When I took it apart, the tone pot is grounded to the wire mesh part of another lead, but is not wired to anything else. What part of the tone pot should a wire be soldiered to and to what other part should it be wired? Thanks very much!

I think, this part is a capacitor. It should be mounted between ground and the left side pin of the pot. The right pin must be joined with the center pin. this point must be join with a signal wire. That is a simple hi-cut filter.
