hi, i checked the "members" list (the one just below the advertising on top) and noticed TOO MANY users with zero posts...
I mean A LOT of users (check it yourself), this is pretty anoying if you are try to find if a friend is here at talkbass (which i was trying to do, i was looking for letter K but got frustrated with a hundred pages and not even got out of the letter B)...

should anybody do something about this, isn´t this eating bandwidth?

and could someone explain me why is this...

  2. They register for the free bass, then they leave.

The only reason I can fathom not deleating them is that what if some are newbies and havent had the chance to post yet. Other then that, I dunno.

Perhaps... they just enjoy reading everyone else's posts....but choose not post, themselves.
I seldom post anymore. So, should I be now kicked off of TB?
  4. Hows this for lame, there is actually 600 pages of the members (yes i checked it thats how i know  ), so out of that i reckon 200 post regularily, would i be wrong in saying that? I still think there should be a cut off date. If a account has been idle for like one year then it gets deleted. Or say if that person doesn't log on for a set time then they are deleted, unless notice to Paul is given. I know Hotmail does it. If ones account isn't accessed once in 60 days then its deleted.

  5. Hotmail deletes after 60 days now? Hmmm...when I wanted to get rid of my hotmail account a LONG time ago, they said that they automatically delete users who don't log in for 120 days.
    Oh well.
As for the amount of users here, I'm pretty sure about half of them never post here. I never intended to, I only signed up to win that Warwick...however long ago it was. :p
And look at me now! 801 posts and rising! :D

how could this be eating up bandwidth? if they have no posts, they are just a small entry in a database. no big deal.

    Stuck on a rock !
There is a search button above (it looks like this <img src="http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images/top_search.gif">
you can search on user or even a partial user name and it displays all the threads which they have contributed to.

A search on the letter K brought back about 4,000 results, so you might want to include a few more letters !

    whatever,thanks for replying
  9. The funniest thing about your statistics is that some of these 200 still fall into the useless users category. :D

Well, I happen to be one of those people that almost never post.
As is quite evident by the fact that I've been a member for over
a year and this is my second post. Every question I've ever thought
to ask has already been discussed. I read all current posts as well
as doing several searches for whatever I'm looking for.

OOPS!!!! This posting is becoming a habit.

I'd rather have people registering and not posting than posting total garbage, like some people we know...

Whaddaya mean?? I go to Berklee. everything I say is useful!
  20. I think people get mixed up between bandwidth and disk space. Les, the only thing that takes up bandwidth is the actual transfer of packets of information from one place to another. These packets need space on a physical wire or cable in order to travel. The more packets you have traveling on the same wire, the more traffic there will be and performance slows. Then you need a thicker cable!
User accounts sitting on a server's hard disk somewhere are not sending or receiving any information, therefore using no bandwidth.

Now, someone posting 150 useless posts in 1 day, that could be considered wasting bandwidth. :D
