How would I go about getting the Tool sound out of my bass. Tool has some crazy sound bass, does this require effects or what?

    use a pick,
i know he has a chorus pedal and flangers
he has a whammy pedal that he uses in the song schism
also, he has a distorion pedal and a sansamp di preamp
also, he messes around with the knobs on his bass

You'll never get the tone unless you get a Wal.

  4. i was messing around with the tone sweep thing he does on the patient and it was so inspiring, i wrote a damn good metal riff. very tool-ish. i'm anxious to see if my band likes it.

if you want it to sound like sober, do this, 4kHz should be 10, 1kHz should be 10, on tone take low down to 0.

    Recipe for Tool Sound:
    Pick
Wal 4 string strung with Ernie balls 105-45
maple facing (his is birds eye) ebony FB (all wals, at least the ones I've encountered have mahogany cores.)
Mesa/Boogie Heads/Cabs (sometimes he combines the overdriven tube with the ProCo Rat Distortion pedal..he uses a ProCo now rather than the old Boss OD-3 or OB-3..whichever.)
I myself want a Wal very badly..not for the fact that Justin plays them..but for the fact thay they're kickass basses.
