I've tried this before, but hasn't taken off. There's a pic thread, why not a tunes thread? A couple of my latest looping experiments to start: Accidentally pseudo-classical bass clarinet loop thingie: New Guitar Day practice: Anyone else?
I like the idea. I have been enjoying the Ambient Post Rock Textural thread just cause I like hearing the tracks people are posting there. It's easy to put pics of gear up but I can see how some may be a little reluctant to share their own playing. I love the bass clarinet. It sounds a bit distorted where I'm listening from. It might be nice to bring the levels down a bit when all the bass clarinet parts and the guitar are playing so there would still be a little headroom. Most importantly to me, I like the content! Then again I've always had a soft spot for clarinet. I have been enjoying recording a lot more lately. Especially recording my bass practice and listening to it later in the car just because recently i have been very happy with the tone of my bass direct. Here is my contribution. Computer synth ambience and upright bass drenched in a ton of reverb to cover up my mediocre arco sound. I hope this thread takes off.
I really enjoyed that! Have only dipped my toes a bit into ambient stuff but I like listening to it. Thanks!
And thanks for the feedback, yeah that was pretty maxed out, have a lot to learn about recording levels. I got a new pickup for my bass clarinet and mounted it yesterday, here's this morning's installment (brought the levels down and tried that "drenched in reverb" trick ). (Still have no chops to speak of, that'll happen when you take 40 years off. )
Figured I'd dust off an actual bass-related sample track from a while back, my Fernandes Sustainer bass (kinda ambient though ripped off from a concert band piece):
I’ll bite! Here’s a couple of my home studio recordings. In each, I play all instruments. Typically I start by playing the rhythm guitar part from memory to a metronome to keep me in time. Then I track each other instrument all the way through. I’m the singer along with singing harmonies (can’t do that live LOL) on Ride My See Saw and a buddy who is a great vocalist is singing Who’ll Stop The Rain. I used my P Bass with flat wound strings on both recordings, played with a pick on the Moody Blues cover and played finger style on the Credence Clearwater Revival cover.
I like them a lot - very clean pro sounding recording. (Exactly what I need to work on.) (Oh, who am I kidding - I need to work on everything!!!)
i recently got ahold of a 1990s Bass whammy pedal, and here is the outcome of me fiddling with it and delay for a while, its not the best and i suck at keeping time. but this was inspired by tool, specifically right in two and eulogy.
Effects chain - original 1990s Digitech Bass Whammy, Boss DD-3 Delay, ProCo TurboRat,EHX Stereo Polychorus MK2. Ampeg SCR-DI into audacity. In case you are interested. bass is a sterling stingray. thank you for the compliment.
Here's a more "amateur" recording of mine. I was practicing for an open mic night, simple song with just my vocal and acoustic guitar. Rode NT-1a mic for vocal, Blue dynamic mic positioned at 12th fret and angled 45 degrees toward guitar sound hole. Effect is slap-back delay on vocal to right channel. Apollo Twin interface, Cubase 10 DAW. Just for fun For some reason the recording link displays as a big gray box on my monitor. To listen, click the big gray box and the play arrow should show up
Not very good playing, but happy with my install of a Nabantov pickup on my contrabass clarinet: Nothing like getting out a power drill and taking it to the side of a multi-thousand dollar instrument! Worked out fine, though.
