I've recently relieved someone of a Trace Elliot AH500S. The Head appears to be in excellent condition, however its a bit of an oddity to me. The previous owner tells be its rated at 250W. (I thought the model was rated 500W) Anyway there are only 2 controls on the amp. volume controls, one with a hi pass and the other with a low pass output. oh yes you can control the speed of the fan (why you would want this function is beyond me?) and it has a switch called ultra violet (which makes absolutely no difference to the soundwhether its switched on or off). Anyway, it appears to work fine. Does anyone know how I can identify its age or locate its spec. using the serial no??
I can't seem to find anything on the"S" model, but the AH 500s are a very underrated 500 watts, I have a 250 that has to be 300 or more Just kicks. The fans in these amps are pretty loud, hence the speed variation. The ultra violet or whatever, is probably the black light under the controls (it may have burned out).
If it is an AH500 then it is 500 watts rms. Thats how Trace has always rated them. An AH350SMX would be 350 watts rms, etc, etc. Anyways...can you post a pic of its front and back panels? I'm thinking you might actually have one of their power amps.
A possibility but did they put the UV lights on power amps???? The Ulra Violet switch is for the UV illumination of the front panel. Won't make an ounce of difference to sound ,but f the bulb works, the front panel has a nice glow!!!! Try :- www.gmaudio.co.uk for spares....or maybe even more technical information!
IIRC, the early series of poweramps had the UV switch so you could add the UV light module (which Trace did offer seperately for rack mount heeads and poweramps) to it. I'm waiting to see a pic before I say thats what he has for sure.
