Trace Elliot Cab Question...

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Aussiephoenix, Apr 20, 2005.

  1. i guys, I have recently got a used Trace Elliot Cab, a 1518, seems to be about 5 years old or so... now, I bought this thinking it was a 300w/8hm cab... though on closer inspection of it there is a little plaque on the back with the model and wattage written in in ink...

the model is 1518, and the wattage is a bit faded, but it seems to say 200w...

    :eyebrow:

Do you guys know if this model has ever been 200w or is it surely 300? Im certain about the model, it has the 15" speaker high on the box, with two soundholes on the bottom under the red stripe.

If it is 200 I better not push it too hard as the amp is 250w rms...
    :help:

If the amp is 250w at 4ohm, then even if the cab is rated at 200w/8ohm chances are you will not be overloading it as your amps power at an 8ohm load will be significantly less than 250w (it could be as low as half).

However, it is never a good idea to push your speakers or amp into clipping anyway. So long as you don't do that your cabinet should be fine even if its rated at less than the power of your amp. To give you an idea of just how much "overpower" people do, a few years ago when ACME B2's were all the rage, people were powering 2 ACME B2's (rated at 700watt combined) with QSC PLX 3402 amps putting out something like 2000watt into those speakers.

  3. well, the amp is at 4ohm, though I've got a warwick 410 300w/8Ohm running in parallel with the trace, so they are putting out 4Ohm combined...

Any of you trace specialists know if this model comes in diferent wattage?

It's a 200w/8ohm cab. But, as said before, I don't think you will have a problem with the configuration you are running.

    IIRC the 1518 I had was 300 watts @ 8ohm, the 1153 (115) was 200 watts @ 8ohm

  7. Old thread but, i just picked up the same cab, 15" mounted high, two ports and a red stripe, it was marked as a 1518T and is 300watts at 8Ohms. Btw, whats yours like, i didn't get a chance to really test it before i put a deposit down?

  8. The model number 1518 has been around for a while. Later versions used Celestion drivers, I think they were the K series Celestion and are rated at 300w. The earlier versions came loaded with Fane drive units (as did all Trace stuff in the early days) and were rated at 200w. The other thing is, if it is loaded with a Fane it will be certainly older than 5 years, more likely 15...
