Trace Elliot GP7 Preamp not working

Hello everyone! Ok a friend of recently gave me a Trace Elliot Series 6 GP7 preamp head and a Trace Elliot cab (not sure of the model number but it has a single woofer which looks to be around 15-16 inches. They're physically in great condition but they don't work. I patch a cable from the head to the speaker as instructed, plug my bass into the head, but theres no sound. Power is apparently ok since the pilot light lights up, but have absolutely no idea whats wrong.

I knew it was not working before i got it tho - said friend has offered to give it to me free of charge if i could get it to work (not necessarily me, i'd send it to a shop etc if it were possible). So anyway the reason I'm here is cos like I said earlier, I don't know a thing about amps, so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. Maybe there are some simple checks that I could make to identify the problem, that kinda thing. If anyone has had experiance with or has knowledge about this particular preamp/cab it would be great if you could share anything you think would be worthwhile.

    thanks in advance!

Uh, do you have a power amp? It's only a preamp, it has no power section to drive the cab on its own.

    A Series 6 GP7 :meh:
Have you tried the cab with another amp?
Have you tried the amp(?) with another cab?

Which exact preamp or head do you have? Normally there should be a tag on the rear of the head/preamp that will have the model handwritten on it. If you can't read it post a pic of it front and rear and I (or someone else) should be able to identify it. The cab is probably a 1518 cab. Thats a 1x15 rated at 300 watts at 8ohms.

More than likely though your going to need a tech to repair it. There just isn't any easy way to find the problem and fix one of these. I would recommend British Audio Service as they are Trace Elliot specialist. As far as I know they are the only one here in the US.
