I found a Trace Elliot VA350, it's got 6 KT-88s in it. I think this is the ancestor of the V6, can anyone tell me if it's power amp is the equal of the V6? I'm thinking with a V-type preamp I'd have a cheap V6! I think the V6 is 400watts and the VA is 350watts, do they have the same output transformers and filter caps etc? Anyone like to chime in ?(such as PBG!)

  2. I have both, but I've never opened up my V6. I can't see why the power section would be different, although there are substantial differences between the VA/R 350 and the VA/R 400. There aren't many of them. Just get it on principle. It's not like it's going to sound BAD! :p

Well, I was holding out for a V6, they look a lot cooler! I don't collect gear, I use it, so after reading the raves about the V6 and V8 I thought if this is the same power section it might be worth a shot.

Do all the Trace tube heads have problems with fuses?
