Well since July 4th is around the corner I've been thinking about getting a new bass.

I've been thinking about trading my Standard Fender Jazz Bass with the maple fretboard/sunburst(retail $599.99) http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Standard-Jazz-Bass-105189419-i1434695.gc

For an Ibanez SR750 Bass (Retail $799.99)http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-SR750-Bass-Guitar-105613319-i1424398.gc?esid=sr750
Thing is I have a 15% coupon which will lower the price of the Ibanez to $680.

Is this a good idea? What exactly will I be losing/gaining if I do this? What are the major differences?

Go play the Ibanez and you tell me.

Is there an issue with the Jazz bass or are you just gassing?

Look around, how many pros you see playing Ibanez basses. Not that that should sway you but it does point out that guys that really play are not choosing Ibanez in any large numbers.

Your jazz bass is a Mexican made instrument. They are really close in quality for the most part, to American made basses, and certainly in a mix, no one will say... Mexican Jazz Bass, I can hear it!

You wanna spend $200 and make a huge difference in your basses sound, drop in Aquilar or Bartolini Preamp in there.

  3. Keep the Jazz. Ibanez can be an excellent bass, but you'll never get anything for it in a resale.
