All the modding I'm willing to do on my '06 Ric 4003. Vintage RI Toaster pup, pickguardian Pearloid pickguard, and vintage black knobs. Wife came home, saw it, got angry at me for buying a "new" bass. When I finished laughing, all was well. Here's a close up. I think I might be in love.

I always wanted to throw in a toaster pu on my 4003, how do you compare it to the stock pickup?

    That does look hot.

My wife is just the opposite of yours, by the sound of it. She never gives me grief about buying another bass, but when I put a 70s style B/B neck on one of my Jazz basses, she seemed a little surprised ("Wait, so you just paid hundreds of dollars for *a part* of a bass??").

They're worlds apart, but similar. The Toaster has a smoother, deeper voice, and balances better with the super hot bridge pup. I still turn the volume down at the bridge a tiny bit when both are on, (most of the time), but the two together just have a better overall tone to them. Hard to explain, but the difference is noticably warmer.

the toaster sounds quite tempting. that's kind of cool that your wife is tuned in to the details of your Ric, mine wouldn't notice anything different.

Me too. I thought he 'tricked out' his wife by selling his Ric (think silicon enhancements).

Strange... my wife did the same thing to me when she had one of the chairs reupholstered. The difference is that I'm still pissed.

YEAH, RARA, me too! I did it when I got my PBass reissue '57.

  19. Now you can buy a new bass, put the old parts on it and she'll never notice.
