Tricrotism tempo?

Discussion in 'Music [DB]' started by c-ba55, Nov 2, 2004.

  1. I have sheet music for Oscar Pettiford's Tricrotism, but no recording. I can play it around 110bpm, maybe 130. How fast is it supposed to go? It just says medium swing, which covers a lot of ground.

I'd say in or around the tempos you've got listed there. That's around what I play it at. But whatever is comfortable to you.

+1 on that. Be sure to learn the OP solo if you have it (starts with the Looney Tunes theme). It's a lesson in the 'chromatic targeting of chord tones' approach (were you approach a chord tone from a half step above, then below).

  5. Tricotism is marked at 160 in the Oscar Pettiford solos book (transcriptions by Volker Nahrmann).
