I tried an Atelier Z m245, it had a 60's string spacing, but sounded like a 70's jazz, kind of Marcus miller vibe...

I know the woods are the same, but the pu spacing being different , it should be different, how is it possible??

Atelier Z owners what do you think?

is it only because of woods?

    Hi ,

I deal Atelier Z basses professionally. I have found you need to change woods to get a proper different sound.

M245 Standard , will have a very very similar sound wether its 60 or 70's.

give a listen to this, the 5 string has 60's spacing and Ebony Fingerboard , the 245 is 100% standard pure marcus miller.

The 5 sounds much "smoother" :) (pre amp is different too , would have to check that over)
