Someone has given me several Switchcraft TRS cables. They appear to be very high quality cables. So, my question is... What is the purpose of Tip Ring Sleeve cables, and how might they be used.

They function just like XLR microphone cables; they are "balanced" meaning that there is a phase reversed signal that gets cancelled out along with any noise the cable might have picked up along it's length when the signal arrives at it's destination. But only if you plug them into a "balanced" input. If not, they behave just like "unbalanced" or TS cables.
