I had put this under the "Bass" section, then realized that it should be here. Anyway, I'm rehabbing a real nice '87 Korean Squire Pbass and discovered that the truss rod nut looks really butchered and I don't see how it can used in it's present condition. The neck doesn't need a lot of adjusting, but does need some to get it where I want it. Does this bass have a removable truss rod nut? If so, any tips on how to go about it? A couple of pics attached. Thanks!
If it were mine (and not someone else's) I would use a ground-off Easy-Out that fits, slacken the strings while bracing the neck and body to take any tension from the neck off the rod and 'hopefully' back that old rounded-out nut out. Then replace with a new one.
there was another thread here recentlv concerning having to remove the plastic collar first to get the nut out.
I posted some detailed instruction on how to remove a stripped truss rod nut on this thread. It's on the second page. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/bad-neck.732059/page-2
So this thread is old, but perhaps someone will see my call for help. I got a nice 93 MIK Fender Squier Series Precision, Maui Blue. The nut is stripped. I followed instructions up here to get it off, but I'm having a really hard time finding a replacement. just ordered the allparts bullet 10/32" nut, but it's way bigger diameter than the one that came off and won't go through the hole. I'll attach pics on a tape measure shortly. Thanks in advance for looking out!
