So I have just done my first setup! Well, not a great one but I think I get how this works (also I don't have all the right tools so some adjustments were by hand). That was on my squier PJ, which plays a bit better now. With my Matt Freeman bass however, The truss rod... that was the problem, let me elaborate. It appears that although both basses have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock, the shape of the truss rod in the freeman (or what you can see) is circular rather than the hex shape I encountered on the pj. This explains why I had so much of an easier time adjusting it (go figure...). Is there something wrong here or do I just need a different tool? Also, the truss rod seems much deeper in the adjustment hole on the freeman than the pj. Thanks!
I can't seem to get a good picture of it but I did the best I can. It appears that the truss rod adjustment is "farther inside the hole" if that makes sense. EDIT: also, it appears rather circular rather than the regular hex shape I've seen on other guitars and basses. Just trying to figure out what tool I would need to adjust this. http://s1105.photobucket.com/user/Jamersonburton/media/IMG_20141214_1554261_zps6bc61493.jpg.html
The pic isn't great but there appears to be a (or what used to be) a hex nut within the recess. Don't know the brand or specs well but you should be able to drop a few hex keys in there just to see which will engage. If the things been rounded out, that will become evident quickly. Riis
