The 34 inch scale works good for my fingers. Best bass, my back up bass is a USA Fender Jazz active 5 (2001). Have enjoyed playing this bass for a number of years. I play it with an adjusted flat neck with miniumum relief. The truss rod vibrates a lot. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I would check first that it is the truss rod and not something else, so many things can cause a rattle or vibration, had a really annoying rattle in one of my basses, went through all the parts of my bass to try to isolate it, I thought for sure it was the truss rod, turned out it was the nut on one of the tuners was loose and rattling. Not saying it can't be the truss rod, but you want to make sure it isn't something else altogether first as some of the solutions for a noisy truss rod sound pretty invasive and drastic. Case of the Noisy Truss Rod
Only a couple of things come to mind : 1.- the rattle is coming from the tuners. This is actually relatively common. Play some whole notes while someone holds down one tuner at a time. You will find the offending tuner. 2.- the truss rod is not tight enough. The only times I’ve actually heard a truss rod rattle is from it not being tight. apart from these 2 options , I can only guess that the truss rod is not actually rattling , but you think it is.
I had a fender precision where the vibration was in the pick guard. I can hear the truss rod on the Peavey millenium AC 5. Especially on G on the E string. I'll double check, but almost sure vibration is coming from truss rod. I'll check the grooves in the nut just to eliminate the possibility. I love this bass. My next bass will be an ibanez 6 string. I played on one and no fret buzz. But they are not all like it. You have to be careful in local stores that have had problemed flawed basses sitting that they can't return to the manufacturer. Advertising for the good name of Ibanez. Even thought of getting a new neck. And that is also an iffy proposition in getting neck that isn't flawed. Thanks Tom L
Actually working on a Squier P bass right now where playing the E string open causes a pretty bad vibration that is felt down the whole neck. Playing the A string, there's a buzzing on the open string. Weird. Just solved the E string problem, it was the break angle of the E string from the tuner to the nut. The string was coming in too high to the nut rather than from the bottom of the tuner, stopped the vibration instantly. Now trying to isolate and solve the buzzing on the A string. Best of luck and hope you solve your problem.
Hey thanks for your info. When I put my strings on, the last string wind on the post of the tuner is at it's lowest point. The Peavey Millenium AC 5 has a little bar going across the strings behind the nut holding the strings lower behind the nut. I don't think that is my problem. I have tried hold the tuning keys etc to also check for vibration. These responses have been helpful in the process of eliminations. Thanks, Tom L
