So, I'm auditioning a few bows, one of which has been described by the seller as being made by a bow maker whose last name was "Keith" (it plays quite nicely, I must say). The seller also believes this "Keith" fellow was an Englishman, and was active through the early - mid 20th century or so. Has anyone come across, or have knowledge of, such a bow maker?

Mystery solved! The maker is Stanley J. Keith, and he wasn't an Englishman at all. Seems like a pretty obscure maker. Who knows how many other bows he made (bass or otherwise), but if you search his name, you'll find a few pages with photos of violins he made. More info here: Violin Luthier Stanley J. Keith? and Maker - Amati.
