First off, I want to thank you again Rich for your valued opinions. I ordered the M13 and it gets here TOMORROW! Okay...I dabble with guitar. After years, I wanted a good amp that was versatile. Loved the concept of the Spider III, and the sound was "okay". Many many months go by and you guys hit the market with the Spider Valve. I found one, played it and fell in love with it! Originally bought the 1-12" model, had it for two days and went back and traded up to the 2-12" model. To my ears, there is a HUGE difference between the Spider III and the Spider Valve in tone! Now..for the bass! I know you've been hit with this before at this forum...when will Line 6 hit us with a tube driven Lowdown series? Or even a tube driven Pod? Come on....I know y'all (sorry...it's a Texan word) have got to be working on something along that line! Fozz
Thank you for getting the M13, let me know how you like it. For sure I have thought about tubes on a future LowDown. It is harder to figure out how to make it make sense. Obviously there are some great tube bass amps, I own a 73 SVT stack I love (hasn't been out of the Line 6 building since I finished the LowDown series) also amps like Aguliar. But for us bass players, unlike guitarists, we have some really kick butt bass amps that are solid state or hybrid. GK, SWR, Eden, Ashdown, MarkBass. In fact one of the things many of my touring artist love is the fact that they don't have to deal with failing tubes. Many stories there. What do you think?
The M13 turned out to be quite awesome, actually. Okay, first, I really don't care for most of the distortions, but there's an over-drive on there, that when added subtley, sounds wonderful to me. The choruses on there sound much better than my DOD chorus. As a matter of fact, once I tried this thing out, I sold all my other effects on Ebay. I haven't had much experience with envelope filters, but these seem really nice, as do the octavers. Delays are delays in my opinion....so that was a wash. The 28 second looper has been very fun to play with...but it's a real time killer....because I'll start playing with that, and before I know it, it's an hour later. But that over-drive with a touch of chorus makes my Rics sound better than they ever have, especially through that SVT 4 Pro. I am starting to experiment with sound for my fretless Jazz now.... Oh...one last thing, I'll never let anyone tell me again that guitar effects won't work for bass. I'm sure maybe "some" won't, but this M13 is possibly the best bass effect I've ever purchased. Take care Rich! Fozz
Thanks man, makes me nothing but happy and fired up to go to work and fight for stuff I believe in when I hear stuff like this. As far as the distortions on bass. I have a couple I dig. Color Drive, Line 6 Drive and BOOST COMP IS AWESOME. I just tried it last weekend after reading a post by judas_jedermann in the M13 thread. It was so so cool. Here is a link to the picture of his setting. http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t337/judas_jedermann/13082009411.jpg
I'm glad to hear I can motivate SOMEONE! LOL! I do absolutely love this pedal. I haven't even tried my guitar through it yet. I'm playing it through the Spider Valve 2-12, so, I'm completely happy...but I will try the old Charvel through it some day. I will play with those distortion settings some more. I just was going with what I found rather quickly, and that over-drive really seemed to hit the spot. It gives me a hybrid sound of the basses on Rush's A Farewell To Kings, and Yes's Fragile. Which is all I ever asked for out of my Rics! I will figure out more for my Jazz basses in the future. Rich, I've searched for years to find the sounds I've gotten out of this single unit. You ARE "da man". And I am looking forward to see what the new updates hold for the M13. Fozz
