Tube preamp into Warwick Profet 5.1

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by THIRSTYGUMS, Oct 19, 2005.

  1. would it be a good idea, i.e. a noticeable improvement, to run my bass through a tube preamp before the warwick profet 5.1 ss amp?
or is that the stupidest thing anyones ever heard...
if not what would the benefits be?
Can any one reccomend a bunch of cheap ones? :bassist:

Hi-fi into an old tube amp
You'd probably have to try it out to figure out the results. I dont see anything wrong with a tube preamp, especially if you can footswitch it.

I used a Sansamp BDDI preamp when I had an Ashdown MAG head. Later on, I upgraded heads to an old Mesa Bass 400. The Sansamp has a totally different effect- giving it almost an SS type of sound.

Improvement depends on what you want.

What sound and tone are you after?
