I have an Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II Head, and I'm looking for a little more tube overdrive sweetness...not much, maybe 15% more at the max.

I want to replace the preamp tube with something that might offer an earlier breakup point...any recommendations?

Is this even a good idea?!?

The Ashdown preamp tube is an ECC83.

    Thanks

    Jason

  2. Search, dude. :) Seriously, isn't there a sticky or something on various brand tubes' characteristics? I'm curious also; I recently picked up a D-180 & wonder about my options for 'tuning' the tone, so to speak.

  3. I've ordered a JJ tesla tube to put in and try, i can let u know how it goes

  4. ecc83 has the highest output so it should overdive most
    try different brands

I've found Sovtek 12ax7wa - it has a bit lower output, but overdrives a little more than usual ecc83
