I am having problems with tube screamer type pedals. Examples of tube screamer style pedals are: Ibanez TS series, Fulltone Bassdrive, VooDoo Labs Sparkle drive, Boss SD-1 and many, many others. The Boss ODB is not a tube screamer.

When I play into the tube screamer at max gain, I get a hollow sound with an echo in the background. This is with passive basses, fingerstyle, and flats. I was playing into either a mixer or my iAMP 500, both of which are very clean.

So my question is: Has anybody else heard this? Or does my technique just suck and the tube screamers are picking it up?

Putting a BDDI after the tube screamer fixes the problem.

i believe you need to better mute your strings.

Normally, I would agree with you. But my test for this problem is the opening run of "My my hey hey" by Neil Young. A ABCD all on the A string. I held my thumb on the E and a my pinkie across the D and G, no change.
