  1. As I've mentioned B4 I will be purchasing a set of 6L6GC's(or whatever u guys reccomend as similar/better) for my V4BH

AND a set of 6 KT88's/6550's for my SVT2 SO I would VERY MUCH appreciate your opinions on which would be best to buy.
I've bought JJKT77's from eurotubes.com B4 with good results & it's usually far cheaper to buy from USA & send 'em to Aus.
What Do U think of these? - for the 4 matched for the V4BH??

Or these? Any differences?? If So what???

Sorry I'm such a dork when it comes to the tech side o' things.... I just need 'em to A. sound good B. Be reliable & last C. NOT be the price of SOME NOS vintage types I can't afford to pay HUGE $$$ for a set

    These.....

I buy all my tubes from Lord Valve at NBS electronics. LV is on top of EVERYTHING when it comes to guitar/bass amp tubes. His e-mail catalogs are great to read even if you don't need anything, and his prices are the lowest I've found.

Another good egg is Ned at Triode Electronics

Between these two, you should get a top-notch tube education. Good luck in your quest!

I have been very interested in these golden lion by sovtek reissue tubes watford valves where selling they are supposed to be faithful reproductions of the GEC tubes I have now but I can't find any reviews and stock seems very hard to get hold of.
Other than that JJtesla or winged C seem very popular.
    :ninja:

  4. Thanx Lowend1 for the links- will do that!!!
BUT I really do want some views on how the different tibes react/last/quality... etc.... & often shop info isn't the MOST reliable- as they're interested in selling U a valve... ;-)

So anyone that AINT a tube salesman got any info 4 me- would be greatly recieved!!!

Thanx also Bassmec... for your info & -Yeah me too!

    I can't complain about the JJ 6L6's in my 64 B-15.

  6. Yeah I agree-so far-with what I've experienced- re JJ tubes! EUROTUBES.COM did me a good deal & the KT77's worked a treat!!!
Do YOU or anyone else know if KT66's are a direct replacement/drop in/substitute for 6L6GC's??????

Full KT88's have higher heater current than 6l6 types like 6550's
KT66 is also marginally more heater current too.
I use partridge transformers in my Hiwatt clone amps so heater current is not an issue, you can hardly bend the tails into the tag board they are that thick.
I am hoping my Custom Marshall Guitar amp output transformer is finished being knitted by Mr Sowter and I can collect it this week.
That will be a sharp old saw with with that big old lump in there as we might say in Suffolk.

If I where going to re valve/bias a 6l6 type amp for kinkless tetrodes
I would be monitoring the power transformer temperature closely
till I really knew it was safe.
I would only buy good tested matched
Gec valves. Otherwise you will reduce the output and anyway the amp will run sightly hotter even with well biased KT77's.

  11. The Winged C's, JJ's, and TAD's are all good choices. But I would not buy from Ebay. A good tube dealer will burn tubes for at least 24 hours. You would be shocked at how many they toss out after the burn. You should check in with the two guys below if you are new to tubes. Good Luck.

  12. Thanks guys- I dunno squat about actual tubes...as I always say- I just know what I think sounds good!

Dealt w/ Eurotubes B4 with good results so will be either them or Tubedepot etc.

    Thanx again!
