I recently got a new Fender jazz and I love everything about it except the tuners. They seem kinda cheap and don't tune smoothly at all.

I want to replace them with good tuners that look like the originals or ones that are true to an early 70's Fender jazz basses design.

    I need suggestions.

Thanks, are the Schallers better than Hipshot? I've heard they're good.

I don't think one is better than the other, but Fender uses Schaller hardware.

    In my experience the hipshot
    tuners are much lighter weight
and are of the highest quality.
    Most of the better handmade
    basses have them. Plus....
    Good company to deal with.

  5. Look for a place called smart parts that sell fender factory parts. They have the schaller tuners that say fender on the back of them. Set of 4 for $50

The Hipshot tuners are 27:1 ratio and the Schaller are 20:1

What does that mean exactly when actually turning the key?
