Hey guys - for some of our set i use a bass tuned B/F#/B/E.

I've just scored a G&L endorsement and now use an SB-2 which has no tone control.

Since switching to this i have had real problems with my Boss TU-2 tuner picking up the low B.

Before i would just roll the tone knob completely off on my previous bass and it picked it up fine.

Any suggestions or is there a better tuner out there?

Try picking (or plucking) the string somewhere along the end of the fretboard,
possibly even around the 12th fret. That will suppress certain harmonics that might
be interfering with the tuner's response.

Or try playing a 12th fret harmonic and tune to that.

    This might help:
When tuning, pluck the string with your thumb. Be solid but not too aggressive. I have seen (and use) this suggestion. My newest tuners even have this in the owners manual.

It might not help with the alternative tuning you are using, but it is worth a try!
