my band tunes to a dropped Bb, and I have learned to play our songs in a different position using a 'dropped d' tuning on a five string (hence dropped A) does anyone have suggestions as how to better go about this? it's getting very confusing.....

Isn't tuning a matter of personal preference? ;)

I'm still kind of old fashioned and have only explored the four string type of bass. let me see,

"dropped d" - that means the guitarists have dropped their low 'e' string down a step to 'd' then, right? on a five string bass, the low string usually is a 'b' so dropping that a whole steps brings it down to 'a' then, right? where does the 'b-flat' come in? I think I don't understand your question, can you help me?
