    I want to get a 5-string.

I play in drop-D and I was wondering what I would have to do to tune the bass D,A,D,G,C. The only reason I want the 5-string is for the extra high string, since I dont need a low B or anything.

Lighter guage strings? Is that it?

just find a 5-string set that has a high C in it rather than a low B. dunno who makes a good set, as I only play with four strings.
  3. Buy a pack of 6 string strings. Just don't use the low B and put the E in the slot of the B. It may be a loose fit, but it will do it.

Youll need to get a new nut, first, because small strings in big slots does not work. Its rather imperative.

Many brands makes a high C set. LaBella, example, makes a good set. Great strings, too. Look at the LaBella Hard Rockin Steels at www.juststrings.com . That should be fine.

  5. You can send me the extra B's you don't need.....
