Twin Jazz Bass pickup in bridge position

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by oxothuk, Apr 18, 2012.

  1. I'd like to add an additional "more bridge" pickup to my standard jazz bass routing in bridge position. Or should I move such pickup to neck a little? Something like Fender Twin Jazz pickup. Any experience?

I had an Am. Deluxe P Bass with the double Jazz pickup at the bridge. The pickup alone was a little weak sounding but I could compensate with the active EQ.

I'm now sold on the the double Jazz bridge pickup.

SDG Neo DLX Soapbar makes one, and there is a Fender copy at Bass Parts Resource: DiMarzio Bass Pickups

    Also Delano makes one. http://www.bestbassgear.com/delano-4-string-pickups.htm#delanodjc4he

I'm building a New 5 string P Bass and I'm putting a Roscoe Beck 5 string pickup at the bridge (with a series/parallel switch) which is a Bill Lawrence design double Jazz.

There seems to be more good choices for 5 string than for 4 string....... the ones I had or used were all humbucking ... which is nice for studio work.

I also built a Music Man / Jazz pickup Bass with the MM pickup in the MM sweet-spot, but I found that the two pickups were too close together for my liking...the Jazz pickup detracted from (rather than adding too) the Music Man... I think it would have been better to have had the MM pickup closer to the bridge.. (at least for my tastes)
