Anybody ever driven two of these suckers for a LOUD band? We're a three piece playing what we call Barbarian Metal.
I also play in a Texas rock/Country band.
I'll be playing my Modulus jazz or a Pre EB Stingray through a B1500.
    Any advice?

    I did a search, BTW!

You'd get more loudness out of the B1500 by using efficient cabs, but I'm sure the B4's would sound awesome, and probably loud "enough".

I suppose it would depend on how much grind, growl and edge you require in your sound to still qualify as "metal"... :meh:

Acmes are reputed to have huge low end. But they sure don't sound like the typical metal player's cab...

  4. IMO, the Acme cabs would not be the best choice for metal. They are very tame sounding in the highs and upper mids and they push out a lot of the sub-lows that eat up power from your amp without actually adding a lot of useable volume. They do sound great with a very full, flat tone, but I think you would have a hard time cutting through a dense band mix unless you did some very hefty EQing to dial in more punch.
I used an Acme B4 for a while and I always had a hard time hearing myself in a mix despite putting a lot of wattage into the cab. Then it gets tempting to add more wattage and eventually you blow the crossover or crease a cone...
So yeah, my advice would be to stay away from the Acme cabs for metal...

  5. Barbarian metal sounds awesome. Are you guys gonna eat turkey legs on stage?

and yeah, acme's may not be the sound you're looking for for a metal project. why not scoop up two brx4.10 neos instead?

We cut our logo out of steel and my guitarist and his Dad made the AX! Check it out! http://www.myspace.com/enormiconmetal

The reason I ask about the second Acme is I already have one and have a line on another used 8ohm B4.

    Nice Joe,
Don't know anything about Acme's but would think that any cabinet called Goliath would fit the bill; nice website BTW!

I'll say. Pretty heavy stuff, and LOCAL, who knew? Good luck in your cab quest, I know nothing of Acme's.

I can't yet announce MY bands name, but the "other" band I play with is called "Swing-set Tragedy".

No, not that band. We just work together, and play mostly for the love of playing. Only done a few party gigs with this band. Most members refuse to even call it a "band". Everyone has other projects, and they span the known musical universe. When my new band gets up and running, we'll have MySpace, Facebook, and anything else available to push the brand. Sorry.

I have two Acme B-4's and don't have a clue as to whether they'd be suitable for barbarianmetal....whateverthehellthatis. They do work nicely for Texas swing and country rock, though.

In which case you presumably have a good feel for the quality of the sound already. Right?

So wouldn't two B-4s sound pretty much like just one of them - only louder and more powerful?

    It should... I'm overthinking it.

Torn between the second Acme and an 810.

A second Acme makes it an 810. Use one for the smaller venues, stack and daisy-chain the second for those grand affairs.

I would like to offer my view which is quite the opposite to Joe's ...

The ACME's capability to push out sub-bass does not 'eat up' the power from your amp, UNLESS you eq the amp to do so. On the contrary, ACME efficiency in the sub-bass bandwidth often allow you to back down the eq in that freq range and leave more headroom for other freq.

ACME do seem to lag behind in the mid when compare to, say, a Schroeder. However, when you have 8 woofers working behind you, I don't think you would be missing any mid. More over, I think the ACME's natural tone, which is the infamous happy face, is quite suitable for metal too. If OP likes the tone of B4, a "B8" would be more then double the goodness.

I would make sure the two cab's are of the same impedance and also to have enough power to drive them (1200w or up).

IMHO, IME, YMMV ... yada yada ...

  20. if you get the sound you want from one B4 then getting another is a good idea. if you are not happy with your sound or are having trouble cutting through then maybe look elsewhere...

Be warned though, those cabs are very power hungry and two of them will eat watts for breakfast to get them pumping
