Just picked up a fretless 6-string whos preamp has been deactivated. Previous owners felt it was too noisy. Opening up the contraol cavity the pre looks like a real cheapie...plus there's no obvious was to hook it back up to evaluate it myself.
Anyway, the upshot is that both soapbar pups and a piezo under the bridge have been wired straight to the jack. I'd love to simply wire the whole thing passive V-V-V-T but...I know piezos typically don't sound like much without a buffer pre.

    Any suggestions from the experts?

  2. Bartolini makes a really nice system, but if it has cheapie electronics, is this an instrument that you'd want to invest more $?

Bump - Chuck, what did you wind up doing with this one?

Disconnected the piezo and installed a new pre.

Sounds great. Thinking though of going to better pups down the road.

BTW - That's the bass in my avatar.
