Two Stupid Q's regarding Fender Active P-Bass Deluxe

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Stingus, Jul 4, 2005.

  1. 1. since there is a preamp in the bass, can I just plug headphones straight into it and jam?

    2. Since the pickups are passive w/active electronics, is there anyway to bypass the active circuitry in case the battery dies?

Bonus Question: Is the Battery issue with active basses overrated?

    Thank You,

    1. 4 out of 4 active basses (the ones I own) say no. There IS enough signal to barely hear the bass with walkman style headphones but there is actually more acoustic noise than sound coming from the headphones. You will have to buy a headphone amp of sorts.

    2. Yes. Some basses come equipped that way but for all others a switch will need to be installed to bypass the electronics.

Bonus: Yes and no. The higher your preamp is turned up (via a trip pot, not the knob) the shorter your battery life will be. But in general it's not a big deal...unless your battery compartment is tough to get to.
