Is it true that certain basses, brands ect. are best used for a certain type of music? Say and ESP-LTD 5 String. What is that best for?

    Please and Thankyou.

  2. Depends on who you talk to... each bass has a distinct tone, and certain types of music sometimes sound better with a specific tone. For example: you probably wouldn't use a bass with lots of high-mids and treble at an R&B gig.

On the other hand, having a unique tone in a style of music can result in some interesting musical ideas and creations.

Also, some experienced players are able to dial up any tone they want out of a bass, so it doesn't matter what brand it is.

ESP basses, in general, are generally use for metal/hardcore bands and music.

The most important factor by far is the driver........not the race car, IME.

Rick, that bass in your avatar sure looks a lot like a salmon.

It started out as a Warwick Dolphin with Fishman electronics that I got in a trade for an Andreas Basking Shark. But it's been customized further since that picture was taken (below)...........bada-BOOM!

Noe everyone can adjust their bass to each particuliar sound. Do the best you can and don't worry about it, because have you heard of a band with no bass? Anyway, use what you have, and adjust the best possible. Then, have a good time.

A Fender works well in almost any situation.

That esp you mentioned will lean more toward the "Metal" or "rock" type genre's. but then again, any bass, in any type of music can sound good.
