My antique flatback has been retired for five years and it's time to thin the herd. Most of my playing is on the road so I only play and travel with my Kay S-9 removable neck, because it keeps my stress down. Years ago I traded a bass for this Tyrolean at KC Strings when I was in the market for an old beautiful sounding flatback.

There is no label in the bass but many people including David Gage believe it's from around 1880. Most of these Tyrolean flatbacks had no neck block. This one does however. Bill Merchant restored the bass in 2013 so he added a neck block then, and a new bass bar, back bracing, rib reinforcement, and thick ebony fingerboard, plus many patches on the inside (see pics). Neck is straight, stiff, and solid with excellent projection. Bass has been sitting safely ever since with case around it.

The bass has a very old, seasoned tone naturally. I used it professionally on many recordings and a couple thousand gigs. I always got compliments on it's tone, I mean always. Here it is in the studio

    And in my living room.

With the bass is a Full Circle pickup and Spirocore Weich strings. By the way string length is 41.5" Please ask any questions, bass is located in Jersey City, NJ so we can make arrangements anywhere in the NYC vicinity.

I had a lot of great inquiries and interest in this 'ol bass but I've decided to take it off the market. Not actually ready to let it go, certainly not at that price.

That's very wise not selling a bass sounding like that. ;-) Great playing btw.!

+1 on the wise choice. Plus, it saves me a trip across the county. :)
