Ugh! Why did it have to be white?

As some of you know, I've been on the lookout for another Steinberger XM so I can convert it to fretless. They don't come up for sale very often, but today I stumbled across this on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=3721176579&rd=1

It's white! Eewww! The gods of bassdom must be displeased with me.

    I wonder if I could integrate a white bass into my super-dark, ultra-mysterious, slightly-gothy-but-too-lazy-to-spend-all-the-energy-looking-for-clothes image? ;) Hmmm....

Eww!! That's going from bad to worse! I was just kidding about the image thing, by the way. But white instantly makes me think of synth-pop Flock of Seagulls type of stuff. Yuck. If I do end up buying it I may have to start sporting the mullet.

    Do you play out ???

White is one of most bitchin' colors you can have under colored light banks!

I still want a good old white Fender Jazz, partially because they change colors under the lights. Being a "show" is a big part of the biz. Something like sunburst looks like "zero" underneath anything but spotlights.

How about how it goes with your too-lazy-to-ever-wake-up-before-noon-pasty-white-anemic-sun-deprived skin tone and generaaly febrile physique?

I'm afraid it would match a little too well.

I don't mind white basses, but don't like the black binding on this particular one that much. One thing I worry about with my black/rw basses is that they might "disappear" too much into the black-clad, black backline, poorly lit stage view (kind of like Tony Levin not wanting black clothes for the video shoot so he won't look like a disembodied floating head).

At least the bass would stand out against your whole slightly-gothy ensemble.

the black binding on white makes it a bit too "White Lion" for me. If it were all white, that would be ok.

White Lion? I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking more along the lines of Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

By the way, my slightly gothy look extends solely to me wearing black T shirts. I can't be bothered with making myself look like a cartoon character with those crazy thick soled boots.

I'm beginning to think white isn't too bad.... maybe I'll place a (conservative) bid. If I win, I will look at it as a sign from the gods of bassdom that it was meant to be.

I do have a black one. See?

Too bad this white one doesn't have a whammy bar on it like my black one. It would have been mine even if it were pink with green polka dots, and covered in Korn stickers!

It would look great with *my* black XM2A!

Actually, I've been keeping my eye out for a beater body to do the "Cheeseburger" thing. My friend's router awaits...
