and, well, frankly, nobody likes a (bad) bass solo. If your solo is going to be bland (especially if it's just you on the stage) don't do it man...many snore I can slap so fast and I can play arpeggios at ____ bpm solos were up there, and damn, I was bored. And if you're going to be a wanker, do it good! Theatrics! Billy Sheehan, for example, all his solos sound the same, but is that a bad thing? Hell no! (his improv'd ones) Don't just stand there with this bland "I hate this" look on your face...have fun!!! Don't stay glued to your fretboards. ...and most crowds enjoy, yaknow, a GROOVE man. Most normal people would rather hear Fantastic Voyage over the Ytse Jam solo (and I'm a HUGE John Myung fan, I just have a broad taste in music.) I'm not saying I'm good enough to do bass solos or anything, I'm just saying they can be really, really boring. So be considerate of the crowds...
Don't feel bad. It was an entertaining read, and put into words what a lot of us were thinking when looking at those ridiculous Google slap videos.
I agree with the OP also. But I am real bitchy about the bad quality. I'd rather see a bad solo on a good video source than a good solo on a bad video source. DCat,
Oh man,.. now I feel bad. Just a little ribbing, don't feel bad. At least you have the good sense not to wind up on a bad video, and then post it on the internet. You should probably click the link in my sig.
Hmmm I"m a sarcastic guy but I'm not sure sometimes online. Once I know your nature I'll totally joke around, don't feel bad, I just felt like an ass beacuse I realized everyone is THINKING that...well maybe one or two people can realize their speed slap crap quality vid on google bass isn't as entertaining as they think:-o
I think most bass solos are done with out the bass player knowing. He is just in his own little word and he starts to play. Not aware of anyone else.
